Mayan culture in Guatemala dates back to ~ 2000 BC - when limestone cities were ruled independently, each with a sophisticated mastery of architecture, astronomy, engineering, hieroglyphs, governance, and ART. Surrounded by volcanoes, Lake Atitlán embodies the convergence of water, fire, earth, and sky. It’s a sacred space for the Mayans, who today, still inhabit surrounding communities, preserving their beauty through ancestral traditions, clothing, craftsmanship, dialects, and spiritual practice.
